Is it Important to Pursue tuition for Secondary School English?

English at secondary school level is commonly thought of just being like that of primary school, but with more difficult content. In fact, it is not as simple as that. Many of the skills required of students at the Secondary level form the baseline for General Paper (GP) in Junior College (JC). For example, techniques in writing argumentatives become useful when students proceed to discussing global and local issues in their GP essays. The ability to infer and summarize content comes in useful in the Application Questions of GP.

Aside from preparing for GP, the same set of skills become useful when a student eventually starts work, where they must exercise clear, mature communication. In view of this, it is important to develop the skills learned in secondary school English well, and we would recommend tuition to ensure that your child develops this skill set well.

How Can We Help your Child?

Most tuition centres use a systematic approach, where they teach grammar by teaching students to recognize certain patterns and fixed clues in sentences. This makes them rigid, only able to rely of those clues and patterns to solve grammar questions.

At here, we do away with the systematic approach, and take on English education with an element-centric approach. We focus on teaching students to understand the structure of the English language. By understanding the structure of the language better, students will be able to learn grammar faster, and to improve their comprehension skills. As difficult as this sounds, our teachers are trained to make even the most difficult concepts become easy for students to understand.

We supplement this approach by providing students with a rich vocabulary, covering numerous lexical areas in day-to-day life. Students are also taught how to use vocabulary in the correct contexts to convey appropriate expressions or emotions.

At the secondary level, we also introduce and develop critical analysis and critical thinking skills to help students to handle the new essay types which they will encounter. Students are also guided through thinking workshops for them to develop mature though process which they can use to write exemplary essays and prepare them for future requirements in Junior College or at work.
